Here are a few sites you might want to look at for more information on Commedia dell'Arte.

Check out Dark Side Masks for more about Commedia dell'Arte masks.  Dark Side is an Australian- based business that makes masks for theatrical use.  The site has terrific graphics, and links to other sites of theatrical interest.

Another site on masks is at masks.org.  This site has more on the history and artistic value of masks.

Roberto Delpiano's Carnival of Venice page offers information on the carnival tradition in Venice, Italy.  This site includes lots of information on Commedia and its characters, as well as other carnival traditions.

To see examples of period Italian dress, you might want to visit The Costumer's Manifesto page of Renaissance clothing links.  This page has links to external as well as internal sites on Renaissance costume.  Here is a good place to see what kind of clothes all of the characters might wear, but you could most likely use this site for the Lovers and Capitano.
