About the Inventory of Conflict and Environment (ICE)

The Inventory of Conflict and Environment (ICE) intends to provide a common basis and method to looking at issues of conflict and environment. The ICE case studies are based on 16 categories of information, many of which contain coded attributes. These attributes can be searched with the ICE search Engine. The ICE project began in 1995 with a concept paper and the development of TED case studies that had a conflict or security component. In 1996, ICE case studies were given a unqiue and new coding format and separated from TED. The case studies are expected to provide support for research and outreach programs. ICE does have 70 cases, 16 categories with coded attributes, a search engine, and hyper-links between the cases. The basis for ICE draws from other efforts as well, described in Elements of ICE
