Truman Scholars

AU named Honor Institution by Truman Foundation

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation has designated AU a 2006 Honor Institution. The award recognizes AU’s “active encouragement of young people to pursue careers in public service” and its “sustained success in helping its students win Truman Scholarships.”

“This is an extraordinary tribute to our students, their academic commitment, and their level of engagement with major social issues—whether in their hometowns, here in D.C., or internationally,” said Paula Warrick, director, Office of Merit Awards.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to the many faculty and staff who have consistently supported our candidates,” she continued. “Mentoring candidates is truly a group effort, and we are blessed with dedicated faculty and staff here at AU.”

The award will be presented during a ceremony this fall.

AU has had 11 Truman scholars; last month, Stacy Aldinger, a junior in SIS and the University Honors Program, was named a 2006 Truman scholar.

Emory University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Seattle University were also named 2006 Honor Institutions.
