Dr. El Khadem has been at American University since 1984, when he was appointed to the Horace S. Isbell Chair. He has contributed to over 180 articles in professional journals, has written 15 books and has 5 patents on carbohydrates and medicinal chemistry. Dr. El Khadem is an active member of the American Chemical Society and works closely with the Carbohydrate Division. In 1989 he received the M.L. Wolfrom Award from the Carbohydrate Division of the American Chemical Society for his service in this field.
