Biography for Dr.
Yosuke Chikamoto -
Assistant Professor
Dr. Yosuke Chikamoto is an Assistant Professor at American University
in the Department of Health and Fitness. Prior to joining the faculty
at AU, he had four years of tenure as an assistant professor of health
science at California State University, Fullerton and seven years at
Stanford University where he was the Director of Technology and Research
for the Stanford Health Improvement Program at the School of Medicine.
Dr. Chikamoto received his Ph.D. in health education from Pennsylvania
State University after completing his B.A. and M.A. in psychology with
a focus on clinical psychology at Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan and
working as a psychotherapist in pediatrics and psychosomatic medicine
at the ranks of a clinical assistant professor at Dokkyo Medical School
and a clinical research associate at Nippon University Hospital, respectively.
Dr. Chikamoto’s
research and professional interest lies in examining effective strategies
in delivering comprehensive health programs from
behavioral, economic, and policy perspectives. International comparisons
are often used in his investigation. In addition to publishing articles
in academic and professional journals such as American Journal of Health
Promotion, Keio Business Forum, and Absolute Advantage, Dr. Chikamoto
has organized numerous international health conferences, workshops
and seminars for researchers, policy makers, healthcare providers and
business
decision makers. He serves as a reviewer for American Journal of Health
Promotion and Health Promotion Practice. Additionally, he has been
involved as a committee member for American Association of Health Education.
He
served as a guest editor for the special issue of American Journal
of Health Promotion titled, Health Promotion in Japan: Comparisons
to U.S.
Perspectives.
Dr. Chikamoto also specializes
in professional training and education using computer technologies.
He has developed a series of computer-assisted
health promotion programs including Stanford Educational Assessment
of Risk and Readiness for Change (SEARCH), Personal Healthcare Networks,
and Health Promotion Practitioner Support System.
Additionally, Dr. Chikamoto has been collaborating with Boys and
Girls Club in helping children establish a physically active lifestyle
at
their earlier years. Currently he is working with Dr. William Sears
to develop,
implement and evaluate the L.E.A.N Kids program.
