Executive Assistant

Brainfood seeks a creative, organized, highly motivated bachelor's of arts candidate or high school graduate to serve as Executive Assistant to the President. This is a challenging and rewarding position for the right person, offering substantial opportunities for, professional growth and hands-on experience in Brainfood's growing organization.

About our Organization: Brainfood's mission is to use food as a tool to build life skills with youth in a fun and creative setting. Through culinary-related activities, we strive to expand cognitive skills, encourage creativity, foster self-reliance and empower youth as resources in their own community.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Design and manage filing system
  • Manage regular correspondence
  • Assist in identifying individual and corporate donors for Brainfood's annual operating support campaign.
  • Assist Events Committees in planning and conducting fund-rising events.
  • Conduct research on local foundations and assist with drafting grant proposals. Some database management
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Organized and deadline oriented
  • Strong computer literacy, Web and e-mail skills: MS Windows, Word, Excel, Front Page, Outlook, Publisher
  • Excellent phone and e-mail skills with demonstrated ability to communicate information accurately, clearly, professionally, concisely and promptly
  • Strong team member skills with desire to take responsibility for what needs to be done and for getting it done right
  • Must have sense of humor and sense of adventure

This is an unpaid internship, however interns have the opportunity to experience first-hand the intricacies of small nonprofit management. This is an incredible learning experience, and we are happy to work with students to arrange academic credit.

Special Events Assistant

  • Holiday Party Parents' Night
  • Generate ideas for new events on an ongoing basis

  • Relevant administrative duties as assigned.

BRAINFOOD AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM INTERN

JOB DESCRIPTION Brainfood seeks a creative, highly motivated bachelor's of arts candidate or high school graduate to serve as Program Assistant for our after school program. This is a summer internship that can extend to a two afternoon a week classroom/kitchen instructor position during the school year. Interns will receive a modest stipend.

About our Organization: Founded in January 1998, Brainfood is a community-based youth development organization that uses food as a tool to build life skills with youth in a fun and creative setting. Through culinary-related activities, we strive to expand cognitive skills, encourage creativity, foster self-reliance and empower youth as resources in their own community.

Responsibilities and Duties Program Intern will assist Program Director in the following areas:

  • Putting together schedule and revising materials for '01-'02 academic year
  • Cowmpleting program manual
  • Making contacts with restaurants and other community organizations
  • Launching an in-kind donation campaign
  • Creating a youth program council Student recruitment
  • Correspondence and other administrative duties
  • Web site updates

Qualifications

  • Experience in education
  • Experience working on community building, community development, community organizing, and/or community youth development projects
  • Must have sense of humor and sense of adventure
  • Experience working with high school aged youth
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Cooking experience, professional or otherwise, preferred

Commitment Required minimum length of service: summer '02, with option of continuing as classroom assistant two afternoons a week during the school year. hours per week: 10-20 hours, preferably 2-3 days a week
