Fitness Specialist Internship

Greenspring Village Position Description Position Title: Fitness Specialist Internship Department: Resident Life Reports To: Wellness Manager Indirectly Reports to: Resident Life Director FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Start Date: To be negotiated Approved By: Jeff Watson Salary Range: $8.00 per hour

SUMMARY Assess and develop individual fitness programs for resident and staff members; monitor, evaluate, and support progress of each member; maintain fitness equipment; effectively market fitness program for seniors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Prescribe flexibility, cardiovascular, and strength training exercises. 2. Perform fitness assessments. 3. Supervise members and attend to their needs in a friendly, polite, courteous, and professional manner. 4. Evaluate, correct, and instruct members on proper exercise techniques. 5. Take heart rates and blood pressures as needed. 6. Assist with coordination, promotion, and implementation of Wellness programs. 7. Communicate member news and recognition to the Wellness Manager for newsletters, press releases, etc. 8. Perform tasks required to keep fitness area safe and clean for members. 9. Build relationships with residents and staff, encouraging them to be more physically active. 10. Teach exercise and/or conduct wellness lectures according to area of expertise. 11. Maintain community philosophy and vision statement. 12. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A well trained individual who possesses and demonstrates high energy. Computer literacy in Windows software programs, a plus. CPR certification and First Aid certification required or willing to receive the training

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Required: Registered in Degreed program in Health or Physical Education or related field. Knowledge of seniors, a plus. Relevant experience, a plus.
