Position: Academic Year Intern/Summer Associate Organization: American Association on Health and Disability Position: Academic Year Intern / Summer Associate Contact: Vera Kurlantzick, The American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD) is dedicated to advancing health promotion, wellness, and disease prevention in people with disabilities. Intern will work with staff on projects, including development of an internet-based clearinghouse of materials on related issues. Applicants should have good web research, writing, and word processing skills. Part –time, voluntary positions are available near the Rockville, MD metro station, with telecommuting an option. AAHD will work with the academic institution to ensure that the project can be completed for academic credit. AAHD is currently assisting state governments which are developing health promotion programming for people with disabilities. In order to be efficient, project officers from various states would like to share materials which have been developed, such as brochures for clients, public health campaign materials, and training materials for health care professionals. The intern will facilitate this sharing of information by searching the Internet and interviewing professionals to locate materials, briefly summarize the content, and organize the information for our website, which is under construction. Another project is to identify local associations in a nearby state involved in health promotion and wellness, and disability advocacy. In addition, associations of health care professionals in relevant fields, and leading providers of services to people with disabilities must be identified, using any available means. This will help the state develop health promotion programs, by pointing out potential coalition members, partners for reaching the target consumers, and implementing programs. Vera G.
