Information Technology Tool of Reasearch |
Within the past decade, new information technologies have begun to transform the way historians study the past and how they organize and communicate the fruits of their research to students, other historians, and the general public. These changes are accelerating and will continue to do so. Graduate students needs to prepare for the challenges and opportunities they will face in this new and rapidly changing environment. The requirements of the Information Technologies Tool of Research will help graduate students better utilize the databases and other changing resources of libraries, to better locate and critically evaluate historical materials on the web, and to better use new technologies in communicating historical knowledge. |

In order to demonstrate competence in this tool, a student would need to successfully complete the following requirements: 1. Take History 677: History in the Digital Age (or its equivalent). 2. Demonstrate a basic understanding of web-authoring and multi-media design. This requirement provides students with a sound technical foundation in web design and the use of multi-media. Students may satisfy this requirement in any of the following 3 ways:
