HIS 380 Enterprise and the American Legal System

Fields of Interest

Albert Beveridge has been an attorney in Washington, DC for 45 years. After a series of legal positions, including three years in the Department of Justice, he established his own firm, Beveridge & Diamond, in 1974. It has become the premier environmental law firm in the country with offices in Washington, Baltimore, New England, San Francisco, Austin and Los Angeles. From 1995-2002 Mr. Beveridge served as President of the George C. Marshall Foundation in Lexington, VA while maintaining his association with the firm as senior counsel. He continues to practice with the firm as general counsel to the American Historical Association. In addition, he is currently pursuing a PhD in American history at Johns Hopkins University from which he received his MA in 2006. Mr. Beveridge taught at Hopkins in the Fall of 2006, and is presently “Historian in Residence” at the American University in Washington, DC.

Throughout his career Mr. Beveridge has served on a number of business, educational cultural and philanthropic boards including: Suntrust Bank, St. Albans and St. Marks Schools, The Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Study at Bologna, The National Symphony Orchestra of which he was president, The Choral Arts Society of Washington, The Urban League, The Public Defenders Service and The District of Columbia Board of Elections and Ethics of which he was Chairman. He has also taught at the law schools of American and Catholic Universities.

He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton and his law degree from Harvard. He also served two years as an officer in the U.S. Army.
