NadellPatrick Clendenen Professor of History Course SyllabiSpring 2008HIS 344/644 American Jewish Women's History Fall 2007WGST 205G Ancient and Medieval Jewish Civilization Fields of InterestJewish History, especially American Jewish History and Jewish women’s history Professor Nadell directs American University’s Jewish Studies Program. She is the author, co-author, or editor of five books, including Women who Would be Rabbis: A History of Women’s Ordination, 1889-1985, which was a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award, and American Jewish Women’s History: A Reader. Past chair of the Academic Council of the American Jewish Historical Society, she has served as a judge for the National Jewish Book Awards, and is currently book review editor for the journal American Jewish History, and a member of numerous academic boards, including the National Foundation for Jewish Culture, the Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the Jewish American Archives, the Hadassah Brandeis Institute, and the Jewish Women’s Archive. Nadell was deeply involved in the commemorations of the 350th Anniversary of Jewish settlement in America.In 2006 the Department recognized Nadell's accomplishments in the field of women's history by naming her the Department's inaugural Patrick Clendenen Professor of History, a title she will hold through 2008
