Fields of Interest

Modern France; modern European cultural history; history of the human sciences; history of childhood, gender, and the family

Professor Norris has received many awards and fellowships, including a Fulbright Fellowship. Before coming to American University, she served as Ahmanson Postdoctoral Instructor in History at the California Institute of Technology. She is currently writing a book about the development of child psychology in nineteenth and twentieth century France, exploring how emerging scientific approaches to the study of childhood reflected and fed pressing social, political, and cultural debates.
