PERF-596-B01 Strategic
Planning(3)
A strategic plan is a tool for successfully leading
and managing a nonprofit organization. The plan,
created through group involvement, articulates
what the organization hopes to accomplish and
how it will accomplish it. This course is designed
to make the process of developing and implementing
such a plan do-able and user friendly. Through
lecture and case analysis, students learn how
a nonprofit can successfully develop a strategic
plan. Specifically, students learn how to prepare
to plan, how to select a purpose statement, how
to assess the environment, how to select programs,
how to set long-range objectives (e.g., vision),
how to choose strategies, how to involve key stakeholders
in the development of the plan, and about the
human side of change management.

Grant Writing for Nonprof Orgs (3)
This course presents the requirements
for planning, designing, and writing effective
grants within the nonprofit sector, moving from
the fundamentals (e.g., what is a grant?) to the
responsively written proposal (e.g., how well
did you write to the criteria?) to the "margins"
of proposal writing (e.g., have you made preliminary
contact with the grantor?) to participation in
a mock proposal review panel (e.g., would you
fund this request?) Students analyze successful
grants to understand the role of narratives, budgets,
work plans, time lines, and organization. Prerequisite:
PERF-673.
