Welcome
to our first, semi-annual alumni
newsletter!
A lot has changed in the arts
management program and the DPA
over the past few years, and
we'd like to share our news
with you. First and foremost
on most of our minds is our
summer move from Kreeger to
the new Katzen Arts Center.
The Center will not only have
the perk of the ‘new building
smell’, but will also
provide the arts management
program with a dedicated resource
center as well as access to
a state-of-the-art seminar room
for classes. In addition to
the Katzen Center, the DPA recently
opened the Sylvia and Harold
Greenberg Theatre, a 300 seat
proscenium stage that replaced
the Experimental Theatre in
Butler.
It is a very busy time in the
arts management program. Our
students population currently
stands at 79 graduate and certificate
students – about a third
are in their thesis stage with
the remainder in courses or
internship work. We instituted
a colloquium series that has
merged, for 2004-05 with the
university-wide non-profit lecture
series. This fall speakers included
Linda Donaldson from Catholic
University, Erika Greeley from
the National Council of Nonprofit
Associates, and Anne L'Ecuyer
from Americans for the Arts.
For fall 2004 we have several
fieldtrips, including the National
Museum of the American Indian,
Anna in the Tropics at Arena
Stage, Deconstructing English
by Doug Varone and Bang on a
Can with Philip Glass at the
Clarice Smith Center.
All this activity seems fitting
as we are celebrating our 30th
anniversary! To that end we
are having a 30th anniversary
celebration on April 9th. The
celebration offers alumni the
opportunity to meet our current
students, attend a symposium
on arts management today, take
a tour of the Katzen Arts Center,
attend a reception at the New
Greenberg Theatre, and attend
a performance of the AU Symphony
Orchestra. I hope to see you
there!
