An Audience Development Plan for the Washington Project for the Arts/Corcoran
Abstract: After facing years of leadership turnover and financial challenges, Washington Project for the Arts/Corcoran (WPA/C), an independent non-profit organization dedicated to promoting excellence in contemporary art throughout the Washington metropolitan area, was absorbed by the Corcoran Gallery of Art in 1996. From 1998 through 2000, WPA/C strayed from its original mission of promoting local art. Due to a relatively unsuccessful programmatic move towards international art compounded with financial limitations and a divided board, WPA/C lost the majority of its membership and its regular audiences. This project addresses the organization's needs by creating an audience development plan supported by an organization overview, audience survey, and environment, internal resources, and mission analyses. The plan focuses on deepening the current audiences' experiences with WPA/C by means of programming, marketing and public relations, development, and internal resources strategies, so that a strong core audience can be reestablished.

DVD Market in Korea Consumer Survey Research Report
Abstract: This report shows the background, process, methodology, and result of the consumer survey of the DVD title market overview in Korea. Warner Home Video Korea requested the survey project, and Embrain, a marketing research company, has implemented the research procedures under the author's supervising.
The Major purposes of the survey are to gain a greater understanding of the Korean DVD market including estimation of the current DVD player penetration, forecast of the future DVD market size, and comprehension of consumers' purchasing behavior and needs. In order to accomplish the purpose of the project; the telephone survey of 1,000 people nationwide, the Internet survey of 300 people in the metropolitan area, and 4 consumer-group discussions for who live in Seoul were conducted. As a result of the survey, we found DVD players have been supplied approximately 11.2% of households nationwide and the penetration rate is expected to significantly increase in a few years. Thus, the company needs to develop a strategic marketing plan to be effective in the fast expanding DVD market.
In the final report of the survey, the research company and the author suggested marketing strategies based on analyzing the result. Through this project report, the author summarizes and explains all about the survey completed for Warner Home Video Korea as the author's non-thesis project.

Topic: Has the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts helped or hindered the arts in the Harrisburg area.

I am doing a web-based survey of local arts groups including Whitaker Center resident companies, non-resident companies, and local arts advocacy and support groups. The thesis will focus solely on the response of these groups as to whether the center is helping or hindering the arts in the area. Areas of questioning include pre-whitaker, post-whitaker, and opinion sections where I ask questions relating to performing space, ticketing information, marketing information, unions, working with other arts orgs. in the area, costs, administration and management, etc.

Working Title: Reevaluation of "The Elusive Promise of Management Cooperation in the Performing Arts"

Synopsis:
Cooperation, collaboration, community, synergy, and consolidation are some of the hottest catch phrases in today's business world. Lately, the nonprofit world seems to be catching the partnership fever too. Companies both for-profit and not-for-profit have attempted working together for mutual benefits innumerable times. And, in 1986, non-profit researcher, Marc Freedman concluded a study and published his findings through Yale (University) Studies on Nonprofit Organizations, Nonprofit Enterprise in the Arts: Studies in Mission and Constraint, under the chapter title "The Elusive Promise of Management Cooperation in the Performing Arts." I am reevaluating the conclusions that Freedman came to by getting back in touch with organizations he focused on as well as gaining new information on management cooperation situations from organizations that have established cooperations since Freedman's article was published.

"Interdisciplinality in Visual Art Museums"

The focus of this thesis is performing arts programming in visual art museums. Three visual art museums provide a multi-regional look at how the performing arts are used. Are the performing arts tools for audience development? Or are they another resource used to enhance the visual art exhibited? The three institutions used as case studies are the Seattle Art Museum, the Saint Louis Art Museum, and the Portland Museum of Art in Portland, Maine.
