John Drysdale (PhD Louisiana State University)
Professor and Chair of the Department of Sociology, joined
the department in 2007, having served previously at Concordia
University, Montréal, Canada. At Concordia he
served as Chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology,
Director of the interdisciplinary PhD in Humanities program,
and Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science. He
has held teaching positions at the University of Southern Mississippi,
Louisiana State University, the University of Kentucky, and
San Diego State University. He has also held visiting
teaching, research, and sabbatical positions at the University
of Iowa, Harvard University, Oxford University, and the University
of Munich. His research and teaching fields include sociological
theory and the history of sociology. Currently he is
studying historical and contemporary perspectives on public
sociology and the tradition of critical social theory. His
