Students, staff and faculty from across the AU community joined us on April 10, 2007. The day featured a research panel by senior majors and minors, a graduate research panel by Masters students, as well as poster and Powerpoint displays from sociology undergraduates. Our PhD students served up lively debate and conversation as facilitators and discussants for each of the panels. Sociology Day also celebrated our students with awards and honors. The sociology department was pleased to present the annual Austin Van der Slice Award for academic success and the Julius Hobson Award for service to graduating seniors. In addition, Dr. Jean Shin, Director of Minority Affairs for the American Sociological Association, joined us as a guest speaker as we inducted undergraduate, graduate, and faculty sociologists into our Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta, the international honors society for sociology. It was an inspiring day as students shared their skilled sociological analyses of social issues with friends, family, and faculty. If you attended the event, or are seeing it for the first time through these photos, you will surely recognize both the intellectual intensity and the exuberance that characterized the day.
