The Multicultural Honors Initiative (MHI) Program, created in 2005 by the Honors Program, provides mentorship and support for minority students adjusting to the transition of attending a predominantly Caucasian university. To attain these goals, various MHI chapters organize programmatic events that will enable Honors students of similar ethnicity to get to know one another.
Some of the events already planned for the African American and Black chapter of MHI are a welcome dinner, a walking tour of the historic U Street/Shaw neighborhood, and a trip to the Kennedy Center to see the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
If you're interested in learning more about the MHI Program or in helping the University Honors Program start another chapter for a different ethnic group, please contact Honors Counselor Lynette Garrett at HonorsCounselor1@american.edu.
