Honors students traveled to Vietnam to study the “American War” and its legacies over Spring Break. Accompanying them were Professors Peter Kuznick and Michael Mass, along with special guest Daniel Ellsberg. Ellsberg, who leaked the Pentagon Papers in 1971 in an effort to end the War sooner, was awarded the Friendship Medal at a ceremony in
Hanoi during the trip. The Friendship Medal is the highest honor the Vietnamese can bestow upon non-citizens. Students also traveled to important sites in the history of the War and the Vietnamese people, including the ancient city of Hue, the former Demilitarized Zone, the Cu Chi Tunnels, and the Mekong Delta.
