HONORS SUPPLEMENTS
What is a Supplement?
Honors Course Supplements add an Honors component to a regular 300- or 400-level course. Supplements allow students to receive Honors credit for a non-honors course by adding a special component. Supplements do not change the credit value of the course.
How do I set up an Honors Course Supplement?
Once you have registered for a regular 300- or 400- level course, you can develop an Honors Course Supplement agreement with your professor. Visit your professor during office hours to discuss what can be added or changed to the course to add an Honors component. Substantial analysis or creative effort is expected in all Honors work.
The Honors Course Supplement agreement requires the following information:
1. An explanation of how the course will become an Honors course.
2. A work plan (Describe contents and requirements of supplement - readings, papers, etc.)
3. Work submission deadlines (Dates when work will be due, including readings, additional writing, and any other supplement work)
4. An explanation of how the supplement work will count toward the course grade. (Note: The Honors supplement MUST count for at least 20% of the course grade!)
5. A copy of the course syllabus.
Complete the Supplement Form, attach the information listed above, and have your professor sign the form. Then, submit everything to the University Honors Center in Hurst Hall 206.
NOTE: It may take up to a semester for an "H" to appear on your transcript. Please contact our office is there is a problem after one entire semester.
Examples of Honors Supplements include:
*An additional research paper, or a paper in a course that does not require a paper, appropriate to the course level and discipline
*In lieu of a regular paper assignment, an expanded paper assignment with emphasis on a higher level of analysis, not length (i.e., using more original sources or advanced readings)
*Advanced or additional problem sets
*A class presentation or lecture (if not already required)
*In-depth class readings with summaries and reviews
