Welcome to the University Honors Program website. The "Honors Experience" is designed to promote a continuous learning environment, making optimum use of our outstanding faculty, campus facilities, and the numerous resources available in the Washington, D.C. area and abroad. Our students enjoy small classes, proven instructors, cultural events, a wide range of social activities and the option of living in Honors housing. Our students' experiences are centered on their engagement with our faculty both inside and outside of the classroom, interaction with political, economic and media leaders and involvement in cutting-edge scientific research.

Members of the University Honors Program can major in any discipline at the University and can also participate in multi-disciplinary Honors Colloquia. These unique courses bring together ideas that cannot be contained within traditional University departments, such as our recent course on Darwinism, which examined the work of Darwin from the perspective of Biology, Psychology, Anthropology and Literature. Another recent Colloquia, Legal Issues in Globalization, brings together International Studies, International Business, Economics, Law and Politics.

If you are an incoming freshman or a prospective student considering American University, please look at our section on Prospective Students. Here you will find information about our program, including materials on our philosophy, student demographics, Honors residence floors, and directions to the University Honors Center in 206 Hurst Hall.
Under Honors Requirements you will find our program and individual Honors requirements for each academic major. Honors forms can also be found in the same section of our website.
I invite you to look through our monthly newsletter, Honorable Mentions, which provides a snapshot of the day-to-day operations of the University Honors Program and highlights individual student activities and accomplishments. You can also read about the Student Honors Board, which represents the entire Honors community by working as liaisons to the Honors Program staff, and by planning events and service projects for the entire community.
