GSC Committees
Each semester, the GSC arranges a host of social events for students to relax and meet other SIS students, networking events to connect students with employers in the field of international affairs, and foreign affairs activities that include tours of embassies in Washington. These events not only provide a great way to meet other students, but they also allow students to realize the offerings which a city as globally significant as Washington, D.C. possesses.
Networking Committee
The Networking Committee seeks to promote and enhance networking between the SIS graduate student body, SIS faculty, and SIS alumni by organizing at least one major event each semester. Speed networking, alumni panels, and professional development events can help keep your professional network growing. Please contact LaChelle Amos at lachelle.amos@american.edu with any questions or for information on joining this committee.
Social Committee
The Social Committee aims to bring SIS students together to balance work with play! We organize happy hours and the annual International Affair among other projects. We work to bring all SIS students together outside of classes and promote a stronger AU community. Please contact heather.broberg@gmail.comwith any questions or for information on joining this committee - all SIS Graduate students are welcome to join.
International Affairs Committee
The Graduate Student Council's International Affairs Committe (IAC) gives students the opportunity to supplement their traditional educational experience with some of the rich international offerings in Washington, DC. The IAC's Embassy Series offers students exposure to important states on the international scene. Every month to two months, the IAC will orgainize a vist to an embassy in the area which will include a speech by an official representative and a tour. The Speaker Series is our on-campus program which offers students the opportunity to hear from experienced professionals in the field of international affairs. Finally, the IAC oversees the School of International Service's academic journal, Sword's and Ploughshares. If you would like to like to take part in planning or assisting with any of these exciting programs please contact committee chair and GSC Vice President William Meeker at sisgsc@gmail com.
