International Development Program

International Development Program (ID) offers one of the most widely recognized development programs in the United States. Founded in 1975, we offer a home to students concerned with analyzing and participating in economic, environmental, social, and political change, with particular emphasis on improving opportunities for the poor and disenfranchised of the Third World.

The International Development Program is home to two masters degrees. We offer an MA in International Development for students who desire a broad, multidisciplinary approach to international development theories, issues, and programs, and an MS in Development Management for students with at least two years of field experience who wish to focus on management.

Approximately 100 graduate-level students from more than 20 countries are in residence in the ID Program. David Hirschmann is the Director of the program for both MAID and MSDM.

If you have any questions or cannot find what you are looking for, please contact Crystal Wright, the IDP Program Manager, at idpsis@american.edu, or 202-885-1657.
