SIS grad students record statements for Liberian Truth Commission
School of International Service graduate students are among those working to take statements from Liberians who are members of the diaspora. Around 20 AU students, including some from Washington College of Law (WCL) trained earlier this year as statement takers for the Liberian Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

SIS alumnus Nicholas Schmidle and his wife Rikki shared their fascinating story of their experience after he published an article in the New York Times Magazine detailing the increased activity of a new generation of Taliban in Pakistan. The talk was sponsored by SIS, the School of Communication, and the College of Arts and Sciences.

In Memoriam: William C. Cromwell
William C. Cromwell, professor emeritus of international service, died March 12 with his family at his side in Rockville, Maryland, at the age of 73. Professor Cromwell taught international relations in the School of International Service from 1962 until his retirement in 1999.

Grad research award winners
Ten graduate students were awarded grants by the School of International Service and the Graduate Student Council to offset costs associated with research projects and conference papers. These remarkable students personify the academic excellence, ingenuity, and collegiate cooperation that make SIS and its programs exceptional.

Lusane honored for latest book
SIS professor Clarence Lusane participated in the AU library’s 30th Celebrating Scholarship program where he was honored for his book, Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice: Foreign Policy, Race, and the New American Century.

AU Recognized for Distinguished Community Service
American University has been named to the 2007 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for exemplary service efforts and service to disadvantaged youth. AU was recognized in the "With Distinction" category. This marks the second time AU has received the accolade since in 2006, the university was named to the honor roll with distinction for general community service.
