Ideas into Action, Action into Service

Action into Service

The Freshman Service Experience (FSE) began as an SIS initiative by Professor and Academic Dean Nanette Levinson, and is now an integral component of New Student Programs. Over the course of the next few weeks, over 500 incoming students will participate in four days of volunteerism in the D.C. community. Since 1991, over 6000 AU students have participated in the School's tradition of public and community service. We hope that you will remain actively engaged in service to the university and your community throughout your time at AU. According to AU Community Service Center Director Marcy Fink Campos, "We believe service is essential to the well being of our community and to our development as compassionate human beings and productive citizens."

Please look for opportunities to stay involved after FSE, with opportunities throughout the campus community. The School of International SERVICE, would love to know what you are doing in your community. Please forward information and photos to Leeanne Dunsmore, Associate Dean for Program Development at leeanne@american.edu. Your information may appear on our Website during the School's 50th anniversary as an example of how our mission continues to be honored.
