Representatives from American University and National Chengchi University (NCCU) in Taiwan met on campus this past November to finalize a historic partnership to offer a dual degree program between the two universities.

The reciprocal agreement encompasses both graduate and undergraduate students in the School of International Service and NCCU's College of International Affairs. The dual degree program launched during the fall 2007 semester, and SIS currently hosts seven NCCU graduate students. The undergraduate dual degree program will begin in fall 2008. Completing all required course work at each university will earn students two degrees - one from each university.
The Europe Council at SIS
Speaker Series, Scholarship and Specialization
American University offers close to 100 courses on Europe and Russia that reflect the most relevant issues and developments in the region. The Europe Council, along with its corresponding speaker series - the Europe Forum, is a vital part of the university's international education, research and involvement. As an academic organization, the Europe Council coordinates interdisciplinary curricula, research projects, initiatives and events centering on West, Central and Eastern Europe and Russia.

The Europe Council also offers students at the graduate or undergraduate level the opportunity to pursue a specialized certificate to coordinate courses around particular themes or regional expertise. With a wide range of academic and professional courses on the region, these certificates are designed so that students can demonstrate substantive knowledge about specific aspects of European culture, history, politics, economics and society. Students can also demonstrate language competency and complete an experiential learning experience such as an internship or study abroad that directly relates to Europe.
European Studies Certificate
Students at both the graduate and undergraduate level can pursue the European Studies Certificate, which reflects expanding curriculum innovations for further regional specialization. The program has led many students to combine their study abroad, language, internship, and capstone papers into a focus on European Studies. More details at www.american.edu/europecouncil/escertificate.htm.
European/Russian Studies Certificate
The combined European/Russian Studies Certificate covers the same requirements as European Studies Certificate but includes language study and specialized course work on issues specific to Russia. Browse Russian courses.
