(The National Centre for Geographical Information)
The National Centre for Geographical
Information (CNIG) supports research on behalf of the Ministry of Planning
and Land Use Administration (MEPAT). The CNIG is in charge of the coordination
and development of a National System of Geographical Information
(SNIG), among other tasks.
SNIG (NATIONAL
SYSTEM OF GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION)
Designed as a national infrastructure
for Geographic Information (GI), it is implemented on the Internet using
distributed GI techniques. A CNIG product.

Eurimage, http://www.eurimage.com/Common/Addresses.html, gathered by one
or more of the following satellites: AVHRR/TIROS (NOAA), ERS-1 and
ERS-2 SAR (ESA), JERS-1 (RESTEC, Japan), KFA-1000 (SOVZOND, Russia), KVR-1000,MK-4
and TK-350 (SOVINFORMSPUTNIK), LANDSAT (Space Imaging, USA) and RESURS-01
(Swedish Space Corporation). For details contact:

Imagery of Portugal acquired by India's
IRS 1C satellite is available from the Euromap groundstation at Neustrelitz,

GASA
GASA's "Virtual Portugal" is a large
interactive database of imagery built for the 1998 Expo in Lisbon.
It includes advanced on-the-fly mosaicing, zoom and similar features.
Related activities include conferences and online publishing concerning
GIS and remote sensing.

Em 1994, é criado o actual Instituto
Português de Cartografia e Cadastro (IPCC), que herda em grandemedida
as atribuições e competências anteriormente cometidades
ao IGC, que na mesma data foi extinto.
A partir de 1996, o IPCC muda os seus serviços centrais para novas
instalações na Rua Artilharia
Um, nº 107, em Lisboa, onde hoje se encontra.

A ROT integra utilizadores de imagens
de satélite e fornecedores de imagens e de serviços de valor
acrescentado.
