Consequences of Dishonesty 

Academic dishonesty has very serious personal, institutional, and societal consequences.  Some of these are listed below.

Personal

  • Sanctions include course failure and dismissal from the university

  • Notations indicating an academic integrity violation may appear on a student’s permanent academic record, which will be part of any transcript released to an employer, school, etc.

  • Disciplinary actions can affect future employment opportunities.

Institutional

  • The reputation of the university and the integrity of its degree weaken

Societal

  • Confidence in the quality of professional work (by doctors, accountants, journalists, lawyers, mechanics, executives, politicians, etc.) and the fabric of society erodes when there is a record of dishonesty
