The beauty and harmony of the Malostransky choir is something incredibly special to witness as twelve voices mold a piece of work into an aural experience to enjoy. The nuances of forte to pianissimo, the legato and staccato, all intertwine to bring viewers on a journey through period pieces and the rythms that touch the soul. They will be performing folk, spiritual, religious, and upbeat contemporary songs.

Come to the Czech Embassy for a very unforgettable and extraordinary performance by talented Czech students who have travelled beyond the ocean’s waves to bring their voices and lively renditions to you.

MORE ABOUT THE CHOIR:
Conductor Marko Ivanovic heads the choir. He studied at the Conservatory in Prague and has received numerous international awards including the Director’s Prize at the Opera Festival 2003 where he served as conductor of the Contemporary Opera Club. Additionally, he has cooperated with various Czech and foreign orchestras including the Prague Chamber Philharmony, the Filharmonia Slaska Katowice (Poland), Toyama Academy Orchestra (Japan) and many more. His mastery of the many works can be savored through the angelic chants of the choir.

Founded in 1996 at the Jan Neruda High School in Prague, the Malostransky choir is composed of mainly students from different Prague universities and colleges. From the very beginning, the choir concentrated mainly on presenting quality world composers previously unknown in the Czech Republic. For example, they presented Orthodox “Liturgies” from the Serbian Romantic composer Stevan Mokranjc, and mixed choir songs from Debussy, Stravinsky and Poulanc.

During its short existence, the choir created a large repertoire of religious music with a wide collection ranging from the Middle Ages and Renaissance to Romanticism and the 20th Century. They have performed their collection of works throughout many cities in the Czech Republic to high acclaim.

Besides classical and folk songs, the Malostransky Choir sings the vocal adaptations of very well known swing and contemporary songs. These performances continue to be very popular in clubs and cafes.

The Embassy would like to thank Czech Airlines for their generous support of this event, as well as American Friends of the Czech Republic.
