The Global Scholars Program is a rigorous accelerated course of study designed for outstanding entering freshmen passionate about creating meaningful change in the world. Students admitted to this program will take full advantage of the undergraduate experience, while earning a bachelor of arts in international studies in three years—and possibly the BA/MA in four.

To apply, indicate your intention to submit a Global Scholars Program application within the Academic section of American University's Common Application. You will then be required to submit an essay on the Writing Supplement.

The essay question is:

Discuss a significant global issue about which you are passionate and describe how you would create meaningful change.

Please note that this is a separate application from your admissions application. It is possible that you may be accepted for admission to American University but not to the Global Scholars Program. Your admissibility into the Global Scholars Program will have no adverse effect on your admission to the university.

For additional information, visit SIS's Global Scholars 3-Year BA Program page.
