Conditional Admissions

American University places strong emphasis on excellent speaking, writing, vocabulary and reading skills in English for success in our rigorous academic programs.

American University's partnership with the ELS Language Center in Washington, D.C., offer students who are otherwise qualified but have not yet met our English language proficiency requirement the opportunity to receive an offer of conditional admission to AU and to study intensive English language just minutes from our main campus!

An offer of conditional admission means that once you have met our English language proficiency requirement within a maximum of two semesters, you will be fully admitted to American University.

  • Demonstrated English proficiency (minimum TOEFL iBT 61/ CBT 180/ paper based 510 or IELTS 5.5)
