Undergraduate students who wish to re-enroll at American University (AU) after separating from the university for one semester (excluding summer sessions) or more must apply for readmission. Students who received written approval to study at another institution and students who have been granted an official leave of absence are exempt from applying for readmission.
Readmit applicants must complete the undergraduate admissions application (essay included) and submit the application fee. Applications should be received by the deadlines posted below.
Applicants should also submit:
- An interruption of studies statement detailing the circumstances behind leaving AU, activities or work experience since leaving AU and reasons for returning to AU.
- Official transcripts from each college/university attended since last enrollment at AU.
Readmission applicants are subject to all regulations and must meet all admission requirements at the time of application.

- Fall: July 1st (March 1st for need-based financial aid consideration)
- Spring: November 1st
- Summer: April 1st
