Legacy Admissions

Consider Making AU a Family Tradition

Through their work, the admissions office seeks to admit those students who, through their academic and extracurricular performance, demonstrate a fit with American University and its mission. The Admissions Office defines a legacy as any applicant whose mother or father graduated from American University. Legacy status is one of the many considerations in our holistic review process and is a way in which we are made aware of an individual's interest in the university. We value the relationship these families have with AU and consider that within the evaluation process. We welcome our alumni and would be pleased to guide them through the admissions process at AU.

Legacy Alumni at American University

Alumni Association Scholarship

Andy Sides, '11, a recipient of the Alumni Assocation Scholarship, with his grandmother, Virginia Ruff, CAS/BA '72.

American University deeply values the legacy of an AU education, passed down from family member to family member. Because of that, in 1981 the Alumni Association created the Alumni Association Scholarship. This program provides financial support to legacy students - those who have an immediate family member with a degree from American University.
