The application for
Fall 2014 will be made available on Monday, July 7. The registration deadline for fall course audit participants is Friday, August 29 at 5 p.m.

Please refer to the steps below to guide you through the registration process.

Step 1: Check the Schedule

Please check the registrar's schedule of classes, linked on the right side of this page. A course must be listed as open for an auditor to enroll in it.

Note: THE FOLLOWING ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR AUDIT

  • Courses under 3 credits
  • Institutes and seminars
  • Courses that require a special tuition rate or are taught at other institutions through the consortium.
  • Some online courses
    • Click here for the list of ineligible online courses
If you have a question about a course's availability, please contact us at 202-885-5962.

Step 2: Complete your registration form

Complete your application HERE.

The $100 (or $200) Audit fee is paid immediately when you apply online and a email confirmation of payment will be sent to your email address.

Once your form is received, the Alumni Relations office will double-check to make sure that you have graduated from the university, are in good financial standing, and that your preferred course is open. If all those conditions are met, a request will be sent to the Office of the Registrar to enroll you in the course.

Note: actual course enrollment occurs during the first two weeks of classes and only for courses which have not reached their enrollment limits.

Step 3: Obtain departmental or professor approval

  • Submit departmental or professor approval in the form or a signature or e-mail confirmation to alumniaudit@american.edu.
  • Approval must be obtained and submitted before your registration can be processed with the registrar's office.

The following departments require alumni auditors to receive approval before they can enroll in the class. Please contact us if you have any questions about this issue.
