Hakim Named Sciences’ New Associate Dean
Jeffrey Hakim has been appointed the new associate dean for the sciences, effective July 1, 2009. He will replace David Culver of the Department of Environmental Science, who is stepping down from the position to concentrate on his research.
Hakim is currently professor and chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. He joined American University in 1989 and has served on numerous committees within CAS and the university, most recently leading the CAS Dean search committee. Hakim is also active outside the university and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for the D.C. Chapter of Math for America.
