American University’s 123rd Commencement kicked off on Friday evening with the annual Toast to Graduates, a celebration for all graduating students and their families and friends. Held in the Katzen Arts Center and co-hosted by President and Ann Kerwin, the AU Alumni Board, and the Alumni Relations Office, this year’s Toast drew nearly 800 guests.

Six members of the AU Alumni Board were in attendance: Vincent Chandran, SIS/MIS ’05, WCL/LLM ’07, Brian Keane, SPA-SOC/BA ’89, Jonah Gitlitz, KSB/BS ’55, Chip Griffin, SPA/BA ’94, Margo Herron, SPA/BA ’85, KSB/MBA ’03, and Larry Pockers, SPA/BS ’96.

In his address to the crowd, Alumni Board president Brian Keane welcomed the crowd and thanked the Class of 2009 for their enthusiasm and generosity in raising nearly $8,000 for the class gift of recycle bins to be placed on the quad and around campus. President Kerwin closed the program with the official toast to the graduates.
