Women's Basketball Wraps Up Great Season

Even though the women's basketball team fell behind early and were unable to regain their lead resulting in a 58-42 loss in the March 13 Patriot League Championship Game against Lehigh, they've had a fantastic season.

"You have to give a lot of credit to Lehigh. I thought they played exceptionally well," said head coach Matt Corkery. "They came out firing on all cylinders and really got off to a good start. They made it tough for us, especially in the beginning of the game…They are well deserving of representing our league in the NCAA Tournament."

Corkery was recently named Coach of the Year and Michelle Kirk, a junior on the team, was named Player of the Year--the first AU women's basketball player to receive the title. Alumni showed their school spirit by supporting the team at watch-party events in Los Angeles and Washington.

The lady Eagles reached the Patriot League finals on two previous occasions in 2004 and 2007, but came up short in both instances, making this the third time the team has come so close.

The women's team learned its Women's National Invitation Tournament first round matchup on March 15.
