Parental Access to Students Records

FERPA permits parental access to education records if their son or daughter is a dependent for tax purposes. Parents may establish their right to access academic and non-academic education records by completing a "Parental Affidavit of Dependency" form in the Office of the Registrar. By signing this form the parent is affirming that the student is a dependent, thus making them eligible to obtain information about their son's or daughter's record at AU. The parent will have access to the records throughout the student's undergraduate career. In addition to the parent initiating access, a student may authorize access by completing the "Authorization For Release of Official Records and Information to Specific Third Parties" form in the Office of the Registrar.
