Volleyball coach Barry Goldberg is entering his 21st season at AU, a span during which he’s racked up 474 wins—21st most among active NCAA Division I coaches. He’s become an institution at AU, and earlier this month the school said thank you by signing him to a new contract.
“We are very pleased that Coach Goldberg will remain the head coach of our volleyball program and continue the tradition of excellence which he has built,” Director of Athletics and Recreation Keith Gill said in a statement. “Under his guidance, the volleyball team has excelled in the classroom and on the court. We are excited to keep a coach of his magnitude within our department.”
Goldberg’s teams have registered nine conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances in the past 11 seasons, five All-America Honorable Mention selections, eight conference players of the year, five Academic All-Americans, and two National Academic Players of the Year.
“I’m honored the university would consider me for a commitment,” Goldberg said. “I’ve loved my time here. I’ve seen a lot of great growth with our volleyball program and our athletic department, and I’m looking forward to continuing the upward growth.”
