Kogod Team Crafts Winning Marketing Plan

By Adrienne Frank

Victory is sweet for a team of six Kogod undergrads, who placed third in a marketing competition sponsored by Divine Chocolate.

The students in Professor Sonya Grier’s marketing class were to create aninnovative campaign to introduce Divine’s fair-trade chocolate bars to college students across the country. The team, Faruk Abolurin, Alexa Antonuk, Ricki Kaplan, Caitlin Kizielewicz, Madeline Tomchick, and Ashley Willhelm, crafted an executive summary, conducted market research, and drafted a budget.

“The students did a fantastic job,” said Grier. “It was creative, thorough, and finely tuned to the company’s objectives, as well as the planned target market.”

Sixteen teams participated in the competition. Submissions were judged on their ability to boost long-term sales, and to educate consumers about Divine’s efforts to alleviate poverty in Africa through fair-trade business practices.
