American University’s School of Communication (SOC) has signed a strategic partnership with NBC News and NBC-4 that will enable faculty and students to collaborate with NBC staff on media projects and academic programs.
Dean Larry Kirkman announced the agreement at SOC’s popular Reel Journalism Festival at Washington’s Newseum, Jan. 12. The event featured Brian Williams, anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News, who discussed his favorite newsroom film, the 1981 Oscar-nominated Absence of Malice.
“Brian Williams’s choice of Absence of Malice reflects the values American University shares with the Newseum and NBC News: the values of truth, trust, and transparency,” Kirkman said. “We share a commitment to serious reporting, to training the next generation of journalists, and to experimenting with new approaches to delivering information and to engaging and empowering our audiences.”
SOC’s Investigative Reporting Workshop has already teamed with MSNBC.com to present BankTracker, a report on the troubled assets of the nation’s banks.
