Alumni Association Scholarship

About the Scholarship

American University deeply values the legacy of an AU education, passed down from family member to family member. In 1981, the Alumni Association Scholarship was created to provide financial support to legacy students - those who have an immediate family member (mother, father, grandparent, sibling, aunt/uncle, or legal guardian) with a degree from American University.

This $5,000 per-year scholarship is currently awarded every other year to an undergraduate freshman student. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years. Scholarship recipients are selected based on outstanding academic records, participation in leadership and community service activities, and financial need.

The scholarship recipient is selected by the AU Alumni Board.

Support the Scholarship

The Alumni Association Scholarship is funded through the Alumni Association Scholarship Endowment, which was created in 2008 to ensure the continuance of this very special AU legacy program. Proceeds from the Alumni Audit program also contribute to the scholarship fund. Through the Alumni Audit program, alumni can audit one AU course each semester for a $100 fee. $75 of that fee supports the scholarship fund.

You can make an invaluable difference in the lives of future AU students by contributing to the Alumni Association Scholarship Endowment fund. Please donate today!
