Numerous opportunities exist to show your support for AU. Whether you want to give to a certain school, college or program, a facility, or a scholarship or professorship, there are a variety of Naming Opportunities through which you can contribute to AnewAU.

Endowments to Support Faculty

Endowed Chair $2,000,000
Funds contributed to establish a chair enable the creation of a new faculty position and support American University's effort to attract and retain scholars of national and international acclaim. Endowed chairs may be created in any existing academic program. Faculty are recommended for endowed chairs by the provost and require the president's approval.

Distinguished Professorship $1,000,000
Funds contributed to establish a distinguished professorship
enable the university to support the teaching and research work of an outstanding faculty member. It enables the university to retain highly productive faculty members by providing additional funding for an existing position.  

Endowed Faculty Fellow $500,000
This endowment supports the work of a current faculty member. It may include summer research stipends, equipment, travel expenses, research or administrative assistance, but it cannot supplement academic year salaries.

Distinguished Visiting Professorship $500,000
Visiting faculty enrich and stimulate the academic environment. This endowment enables the university to bring prominent scholars to campus on a rotating basis, usually for a semester. Endowment income is used to cover travel costs, supplemental salaries, and other expenses associated with the visit.

Guest Artist and Artist-in-Residence Series $500,000
Funds contributed to establish a guest artist or artist-in-residence series can be used in programs such as dance, music, theatre, cinema studies, or creative writing.

Visiting Lectureship $100,000
An endowed lectureship provides ongoing funding for the travel costs, living expenses, and housing of guests invited to AU to give scholarly lectures and seminars. These important visitors provide variety and scope to the learning opportunities available at the university.

Endowments to Enhance Student Excellence

Scholarships  $50,000
Contributions to fund endowed scholarships are used to support undergraduate or graduate students in any academic program at the university. Scholarships may be awarded on the basis of academic merit and/or financial need. 

Graduate Fellowships and Assistantships  $50,000
This endowment supports a stipend for outstanding graduate students in any academic area. Students gain practical experience by working with a faculty member on research or teaching instruction.
