American Field Hockey Readies for Patriot League Championship
Eagles will face Lafayette in semifinals as the number three seed

October 31, 2001

WASHINGTON -- American field hockey is gearing up for its inaugural appearance at the Patriot League Championship this weekend. The Eagles ended the season with a 4-3 league record and a 7-9 overall record in 2001.

American finished at third place in league standings. The top four teams will play in two semifinal games on Saturday, Nov. 3, and the winners of these two games will face one another in the final on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 1:00 p.m.

With a 6-1 league record, Holy Cross enters the championship as the league's number one seed and will host the tournament in Worcester, Mass. They will face number-four seed Fairfield.

American, the third seed, will play Lafayette, who occupies the number-two slot. This game will be a rematch of the regular season finale for both teams, who faced each other on Oct. 30. Lafayette came away with the 4-1 victory over the Eagles.

This weekend's competition promises to be highly competitive as the winner of the Patrior League Tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, scheduled to begin the weekend of Nov. 10-11.
