College Park, Md. -- Despite a strong second half that included 10 shots on goal and seven penalty corners for American, Davidson managed a score late in the second period to win the contest when Wildcat forward Agnes Bateman rebounded her own shot to score at the 68:20 mark.
Returning junior Magdalena Aguilar dominated the field with five shots on goal while senior Kecia Jones provided a strong defensive force for the Eagles. Junior goalkeeper Lauren McDonnell posted a stong game, defending well against the Wildcats' six penalty corners.
Junior Agnes Bateman posted four shots overall in the game. Freshman goalie Cate Schenning posted her second straight shutout in her debut collegiate year after today's win. The Wildcats defeated Longwood, 4-0, in their season opener.
The Eagles will get ready to hit the road next week and will play in their inaugural Patriot League match versus the Holy Cross Crusaders on Sat. Sept. 8, at 12:00 p.m. Their next home match will be on Wed. Sept. 19 versus Virginia Commonwealth University.
