American Field Hockey Places Eight on Patriot League Academic Honor Roll
Field Hockey Honor Roll recognizes 79 total student-athletes

Senior captain Deanna Vogt earned the highest GPA on the field hockey team in 2001 with a 3.80.

WASHINGTON -- The American University field hockey program was honored by the Patriot League today with eight selections to the Patriot League Field Hockey Honor Roll. All-League first team members Magdalena Aguilar (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. Catherine’s Moorlands) and Karlijn Schellens (Valkenswaard, Netherlands/Conestoga) both made the honor roll for 3.20 and 3.44 respective GPAs.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must earn a 3.2 grade-point average in the fall semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the seven League-sponsored fall championship sports. A total of 480 student-athletes, including 79 field hockey players, were named to the League’s Fall Academic Honor Roll, including 23 with 4.00 GPAs. The Fall Academic Honor Roll includes the sports of men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball.

Senior co-captain Deanna Vogt (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) holds the highest GPA for American field hockey with a 3.80. She will graduate in May with a degree in Elementary Education.

American field hockey finished with a 7-10 record (4-3 Patriot League) in 2001 and entered the Patriot League Tournament as the No. 3 seed before falling, 1-0, to No. 2 Lafayette in the semifinals.

American University, which is in its inaugural year as a member of the Patriot League, officially joined the conference on July 1. The University, founded in 1893, fields a 19-sport Division I athletics program, featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men.
