Earn First Win of Season Goals by Rice, Aguilar lead AU to victory Game Stats -- Sept. 19, 2001 Richmond, Va. -- In American University's first athletic contest held since last week's national tragedy, the field hockey team emerged victorious when the Eagles defeated Virginia Commonwealth, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon. American notched its first win of the season today in a hard fought effort against VCU in Richmond. The Eagles have dealt with pressure on many fronts lately, but the leadership of head coach Steve Jennings and the intensity of many top players brought the Eagles their first win in 2001 today. Lindsay Rice (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) and Magdalena Aguilar (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. Catherine's Moorlands) each netted their first goals of the season in today's contest. Aguilar also notched an assist in the effort. Goalkeeper Laura Miller (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) stood tall against 13 total shots made by the Rams and notched five saves. Come support the Eagles as they hope to continue their winning streak this weekend versus Lehigh. The game will be played at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. beginning at 3:00 p.m.
