American Defeats Fairfield, Notches Second Patriot League Win
Agustine scores first goal of season; McDonnell earns first shutout

Game Stats -- Sept. 28, 2001

Washington, D.C. -- The American field hockey team continued its winning streak by edging out Fairfield University, 1-0, on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Eagles have now defeated two straight Patriot League opponents after ousting Lehigh, 3-2, last Saturday.

Senior Elizabeth Augustine (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) scored the lone goal for the Eagles at only 3:20 into the game. She rebounded a shot by junior Magdalena Aguilar (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. Catherine's Moorlands) straight back into the net past Fairfield keeper Lauren Thomas.

Junior keeper Lauren McDonnell (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) had a strong day in the net for American. She finished with five saves and is credited with the Eagles' first shutout win of the season.

American outshot Fairfield 9-5 in the game and played excellent defense as the Stags attempted a second-half comeback. Senior Alexia Kennedy had three shots on goal and lead the Stags offensive attack.

The Eagles move to 3-3 overall (2-1 Patriot League) with the win and will play an away game at the University of Richmond this Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. American's next home match will be against another Patriot League opponent, Colgate, on Sat., October 6 at 1:00 p.m., location TBA.
