Augustine Named Offensive Player of the Week for Field Hockey
Senior forward’s lone goal clinched American’s 1-0 victory over Fairfield

Liz Augustine earned the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week award on Monday.

Washington, D.C. -- American University senior Elizabeth Augustine (Hummelstown,Pa./Lower Dauphin) was named the Patriot League’s Offensive Player of the Week for field hockey this afternoon. Augustine receives American’s second straight Patriot League field hockey award on the season, as junior Magdalena Aguilar (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. Catherine’s Moorlands) earned the Offensive Player of the Week nod last week.

American faced their third Patriot League foe of the season in Fairfield University last Friday. Augustine knocked a rebound into the back of the net early in the first period,and her score proved to be enough as the Eagles held on to defeat the Stags, 1-0.

The goal marked Augustine’s first score of 2001. With the win, American won its third straight contest and notched its second consecutive Patriot League win. The Eagles are now tied for second place in league standings, with a record of 2-1, and are 3-3 overall.

The American Eagles will play at the University of Richmond this Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. The Eagles will then face Colgate University, another Patriot League foe, on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
