Falls to Richmond in Overtime Junior Magdalena Aguilar scores lone goal for Eagles Game Stats -- Oct. 3, 2001 Richmond, Va. -- The American field hockey team fell, 2-1, to the Richmond Spiders in overtime today. Junior Magdalena Aguilar (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. Catherine's Moorlands) scored the Eagles only goal with 4:20 remaining in the second half. In their first overtime game of the season, the Eagles could not capitalize on several scoring opportunities. Aguilar nearly scored her second goal of the game when she delivered a bullet into the box, but Richmond goalkeeper Jen Albert dove to block the shot. American dominated play in the scoreless first half, but the Spiders got on the board first when senior Leslie Ramich punched in a shot from the left side to give Richmond a 1-0 lead. American responded late in the second half when Aguilar beat Alpert in a one-on-one situation. In overtime, senior forward Heather Rice converted Richmond's only corner of the overtime period to score the winning goal and give Richmond the 2-1 victory. American outshot Richmond 13-7 in the game and also notched 11 penalty corners compared to only five by Richmond. The Eagles move to 3-4 overall, 2-1 while playing in the Patriot League. They will face Colgate University this Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in Hamilton, N.Y., for their fourth league match of the year.
